Just what are air plants?

Unique, Compact House Plants

Air plants (Tillandsia) are a family of plants that grow without soil. In the wild they cling to trees, rocks and cliffs, drawing water and nutrients from rain, mist and the air around them through tiny scales on their leaves. Their roots act only as anchors, which is why they can live almost anywhere you place them.

Sustainably Grown

Our air plants are grown by family-run nurseries in Guatemala, where they’re cultivated from seed and offsets in the region’s diverse climates rather than collected from the wild. Growing them this way protects native populations and supports local growers, so the plant that arrives at your door was raised with care for both people and place.

Easy Care, Endless Uses

Air plants need only bright, indirect light and a soak or misting about once a week. With no pots or soil required, they fit in places other plants can’t: on a desk, in a glass terrarium, mounted on driftwood, or hung in a window. They make thoughtful gifts, low-maintenance office décor and a simple way to bring something living into any space.

Giving Back with Every Order

This Giving Weekend, Air Plant Shop is giving 100% directly to Pencils of Promise to help build schools and support students in communities where our plants are grown. Every purchase you make goes toward classrooms, teachers and learning, turning a small living gift for your home into a lasting gift for a child’s education.
